BARTOW - (November 13, 2008) – Polk County Fire Rescue announced plans to open a fire station in the area of Hwy 27 and Interstate 4 on Monday, Nov 17, 2008. Initially, the station will be a temporary site located at Outpost 27, the County’s Visitor Center, just south of I-4. The modular station will be used until a permanent station can be constructed on Cottonwood Street, approximately 1.5 miles further south of I-4.

“It has been a nearly two year project to obtain a suitable location to house the temporary and permanent facilities. North Polk County is rapidly growing and we would be remiss if we did not continually look for more efficient ways to serve our residents,” said Polk County Fire Chief David Cash.

Residents will benefit from improved response times for emergency services and potentially improved Insurance Service Organization (ISO) ratings on their homeowners insurance. ISO ratings impact insurance premiums by calculating the distance of a residence from the nearest fire station, fire hydrant, and/or several other variables. Residents in the area should contact their homeowner’s insurance agent to determine if savings are available.
